GETTING READY FOR SUMMER
The above painting is not as difficult as it
looks. The sky is done wet-in-wet. For the ocean, we will use large flat brush
strokes of Prussian blue, ultramarine
blue and gamboges (yellow) leaving white paper to describe the white water. The
permanent red sail boat contrasts the blue/green of the water and three sailors
are holding it steady into the wind.
The water and sky are the most fun to paint. The water is especially fun – lots of water
and pigment are “swayed” back and forth to get the water feeling.
If you have old watercolors that can be painted
on the unused side, please bring them for practice. I will also be bringing some with me for you
to use.
You will also need a
plastic water container, rags (cotton towels are excellent), sketch paper for
exercises and note taking and a hairdryer is also useful. I recommend an inexpensive
watercolor pad from WalMart. They are
about $10 and are useful for practice.
Class is limited to 15. If you have any questions call 823-1905 or email ja864@yahoo.com
Cost:
$25 (no tax)
New Painters need not bring anything. I always have paint and brushes you can borrow and paper can be purchased at cost.
