Lesson Plan for Wednesday November
9th , 2011

WINTER
The first drawing is the original idea –
the second is a drawing based upon the first but the figure is walking into the
composition rather than walking out of the picture. I also give the figure a
sled instead of a tree to pull (either is fine). The third on the left is a painting based on
the sketch and I am fairly satisfied with it.
The final painting is about an obvious Montreal Canadian fan with his
young friend about to go skating on the local pond. Rarely seen anymore – most kids end up in
organized sports and on a huge indoor area.
Ah well………
For the sake of the new folks coming – I
am going to meet at 9am to go through some painting exercises that will be
helpful. Anyone can come and take part
in this extra half-hour practice. We
will be covering hard/soft/fused edges; color mixing; textures; shadows and
reflections and anything else we can think up.
Brushes: 1” flat, #10 round or any suitable brush of
your choice.
Colors: Full Palette.
(The brand I use is DVP, DiVinci Brand Artist’s
quality but any brand will do).
Paper: Quarter
sheet of 140lb of any good quality watercolor paper – my personal favorite is
TH Saunders – either 200lb or 140lb.

note taking and a hairdryer.
