 “BARNS IN WINTER”

This painting is done on a full sheet of watercolor paper (22x30) and anyone who wants to attempt a full sheet may do so.  A half sheet or quarter sheet will work just as well.  Snow scenes are all about dark against light and leaving a lot of white paper to describe the snow.  Even though the painting is large, it is really quite simple.  The part of the painting that I enjoyed most was working on the shadows.

The diagonal shape in the foreground snow painted with swift simple strokes and then met in the sky with opposing strokes give this seemingly peaceful painting a certain power.

Like most paintings there is always the element of luck with some added talent and a lot of skill.

Once again we will be meeting at 9am for the pre-lesson.  This week it will be on color and color consistency.
