Lesson Plan for Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Title:  “Coming out of the Mist”

It takes skilled fishermen to maneuver a cape boat on the wild North Atlantic.  This painting describes just that – It has been a stormy night and the morning light makes it easier to come back to the safety of home.

Brushes: 1” flat, #10 round or any suitable brush of your choice.

Colors:  The ocean is painted in a combination of ultramarine blue, raw sienna and burnt sienna.  The cape boat is orange which can be cadmium orange or a mixture of permanent red and gamboges yellow.

(The brand I use is DVP, DiVinci Brand Artist’s quality but any brand will do).

Paper:  140lb of any good quality watercolor paper – my personal favorite is TH Saunders – either 200lb or 140lb.

You will also need: Water Container, rags (cotton towels are excellent), sketch paper for exercises and note taking and a hairdryer.

Class is limited to 15
